Who stole my Summer?

So now I’ve got all that off my chest…. here’s, (what I hope to be) a brief update of my Summer ...
Since coming home in June I’ve been work work working, popped to Glastonbury for 5 days, highlights were Stevie Wonder, (what a man…), The Scissor Sisters, Florence and the Machine and wandering around the incredible Shangri-la, Arcadia (not very sober) at night…

So it hit me today I’ve only got a couple of weeks left in the country before a nice relaxing week in Cyprus and then a trek back up the M1 to Leeds for the start of year 3. Where on earth does time go?! Everyone seems to say it, but seriously, I want to know who stole my time?!
I’ve been working the Mexican restaurant back home to try earn some pennies to attempt in slowly filling my overdraft and pay for rent. I’ve also managed to bag myself a temp receptionist job at a local office, which I’ve managed to get a fair few days in. Since I’ve been home I’ve been busying around trying to get some information or opportunities for volunteering in the Warwickshire area, or up in Leeds ready for the start of September. Being flexible with time, a keen positive friendly face and having a full CRB check, you’d think people would snap me up … oh no… there’s been a mighty struggle in trying to offer my free services to people, which I found a shock, and pretty frustrating.

But… All the chasing up has paid off! I have managed to get in contact with People in Action, based in Leeds. I popped up for a quick chat on Tuesday morning and I’m now part of the team. Woop! This seemed like a great place to start, so I’m waiting for the paperwork to go through and hear about some opportunities over the coming weeks for when the new term kicks in. http://www.peopleinaction.org.uk/
Today I had a meeting with one of the volunteering coordinators from Warwickshire County Council so that I can get some experience in Rugby. The Bloxham Centre is a Social Education Centre, which offers day service to adults with learning disabilities; I’m hoping it’ll be ok to squeeze a few days in before I head back to Leeds and then I’ll let the team know when I’ll be available over Christmas and any other holidays too.
