Kate Malone
Malone's work speaks for itself, evidently influenced by natural forms - she produces unique and recognisable pieces, that are still very functional and practical.
Hennie Meyer
South-African ceramicist, creates highly individual and detailed pieces. The pieces still manage to have a smooth, polished finish to them, even though they are handmade - these will have been made by slip casting - which comes back to my first dilemma of how I want my ceramic pieces to 'feel'.
Jessica Jordan
Jordan describes herself as a ceramicist, who creates one off individual pieces of ceramic art in the form of vessels and wall hangings. These have a very handmade finish; they are sculpted and 'decorational' - yet still functional designs. I really like this idea a lot, particularly the 'flat' finish to the outside of the vessels, which leaves you to plenty of space to create as much detail or leave as simple as you so desire.
Jill Ford
I absolutely love these .... 'A range of innovative contemporary porcelain Wall Pieces, porcelain vases and bowls thrown on the wheel... Refined elegant shapes and a pared back range of colour characterise the work, allowing emphasis to be placed on rich textural decoration.'
I'd never really thought about illustrating the ceramics themselves - making a really simple piece; therefore not needing to necessarily develop my ceramic making skills too far - and then experimenting with the glaze and finishing off of the pieces. I'll put this past the technicians and see what they can suggest, or how difficult it might be to achieve something like this...
