Going around the Craft Fair yesterday has really made me step back and think about where I want to end up - if I got my act together and made some solid decisions, there's nothing stopping me having my own stall at the craft fair come next year.
My tutorial on Thursday felt a little disappointing as I didn't have a lot of visuals, if any, to show Nick - we're having a group tutorial after reading week and following that will be the interim crit. I'll need to have a good selection of work to show everyone else, as well as project briefs written out to show a clear direction of what my work is all about and where I want to finish come the deadline in December, and potentially beyond.
Seeing some of the stalls at the craft fair displaying textiles, it's made me realise how much I miss my sewing machine!! I've been distracted by the days at Cockburn and my dissertation research, I've not made time for it at all. Over reading week I've already decided to commit most of my time to the dissertation to get underway, but I want to keep an eye out for fabrics/ribbons/lace/buttons/inspirations for designing some textiles pieces - thinking about printing on fabric and the cross over between handmade/hand-finished.
I need to play around with ideas, not just suggesting and sketching them, but actually putting them to practice - so if I create a few plausible ideas, then start making as soon as I'm back in Leeds, hopefully by the end of the week come tutorial time I'll be more confident in talking about and explaining my work to others.
