Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of communication. (Lots more info here ... BAAT ) Art Therapy really interests me because it's an opportunity to work and engage with people, something that I've realised over the last year is essential to my future career.
There are a few ways of gaining the necessary qualifications to become an art therapist, including training courses & MA's, which run all over the UK. I'm starting to research into the different strands of courses and the qualifications and experience needed to apply for them so I can plan the next year or two and decide on my best approaches.

One thing I am sure of is to start gaining experience - I want to spend some time volunteering and trying to gain some understanding of the qualities of working with different groups of people, and finding out early on whether this is definitely the route for me. Overall on paper Art Therapy looks like my ideal profession, but that says nothing for the type of work involved and whether it's the right thing for me; I need experience first!

I really can't wait to get stuck in, I think I'm really going to enjoy it all and I'm looking forward to sharing my arty side with others - and at the same time learning even more in return.
