Searched on google for advice on lip syncing and found this really useful post ... http://www.keithlango.com/tutorials/old/lipSync.htmHe goes on a little bit, but cracks the odd joke, it's pretty much common sense really, but saves me making the silly errors, pretty useful I thought!
So to help me work out for my little bear to say, 'mmm' or 'hello', I sat in front of the mirror and did some quick sketches trying to work out the movement of my face when I talk or make different phonetic sounds. Thinking about the movements of the mouth, cheeks, nose.. altogether it's actually pretty hard! Well, it's fairly straightforward, just confusing when you try and think how to apply it to the timing of how things are spoken. This is making me think more and more I really shouldn't bother with lip syncing at all, but I'm determined to get something done, even if it's 3 seconds! just to say I've tried it! :)
Here's a few crappy drawings, and the first attempt of 'hello'... which is pretty poor!
I realise now I really need to move the body of the bear - the initial idea of the same frame for the body photocopied as a basic template to draw on isn't really working. The bear looks too static with a bit of movement going on in his face and the odd squiggle around his body. If I want this to work I think I'll have to draw each bear from scratch, but with the use of a light box and the simplistic drawing style, I don't think this will be too much trouble... The mouth kind of works though! So worth my while in one way or another!
Also, glad I opted for the short 1 second/2second words rather than a full blown 10 second conversation.. definitely would be pulling my hair out spending 10 days on that and realising it didn't work!
ding! ding! .... Round 2
