Best film I've seen in so long, I thought there were so many laughs, the characters were amazing, and they managed a fair few of those emotional bits where you get that lump in the back of your throat. Just brilliant :)
Just before Up started, there was a short animation by Disney/Pixar - Partly Cloudy.. amazing graphics in 3d, and as ever with their little shorts, it was such a cute little story!
Can't find a half decent version to embed, so check it out at the link here below

The other screenings we went along to were: Official Selection: Student Films, Official Selection: Music Video/Short Shorts, and Joanna Quinn's Favourite Films.
The two Official Selections were really great to see what kind of animations people are producing now, really good to see the range of techniques and qualities people are merging - especially the students. There were a few that made me wonder what on earth was going on, and I found far too confusing, but there were a couple in particular that stood out for me.
Catharsis, was a really emotional animation, as you can gather from the title, it was so powerful. It was almost like a bizarre thriller film come animation, it was great to see those film qualities transferred so well to an animation, and I think that that is really important.
In contrast, there was another student film, Leitmotif, which had a really 'feel good' feel to it, helped by a little cat character, who was adorable, charming and very very funny.
I also really enjoyed Joanna Quinn's films, it was a good chance to see a range of animations that influence someone else successful in the same field. The animations included...
Two Sisters, Caroline Leaf: mentioned earlier in my brief, the animation etched onto 70mm film.
Hill Farm, Mark Baker: My favourite of her selection, a brilliant piece that was so entertaining, thanks to some great characters, souns effects and a quirky storyline.. (this is part 1)
Who I am and What I Want: David Shrigley & Chris Shepherd: This was weird, quite gross and completely insane... but strangely there's something I like about it. I love how simple the animation is, like black and white simple lines, it's a great combination. (Some people may find this offensive!!!!!!)
Reci, Reci, Reci, Michaela Pavlatova: The narrative of this animation was great, it was really well presented and was just really enjoyable to watch :)
The whole day was a real eye opener to see what's available out there to look into, what animation still looks good today and what people love about animation; there was a handful of 3d CGI stuff going on, but there was still a lot of the traditional looking 2d styles, then combining 2d traditional with a contemporary edge.
Definitely will look at going again next year :)
