After the email from Andy Doran, I decided to start looking for agencies in Leeds, and came across Brand New, through The Logistik Group ; Logistik Group being a kind of umbrella organisation of agencies, and BrandNew being their specialised 'Motion' agency. So I gave them a little email to show my interest in coming to have a look around and see what their working environment is like.. and they emailed back asking if I would like to come see how they work, or actually help out with some projects running at the moment ... BONUS!
I replied letting them know that my experience isn't vast, as I'm only just picking up basics at the moment, but if I could help out, then great, and if I just look around then that's still good news.
Since that email....I still haven't heard back from them, tempted to try again..I'll see how busy next week gets and if I can realistically squeeze it in, (don't want too many plates spinning!)
If by a stroke of luck I do get stuck in and help out on projects, it's something that I'd love to carry on beyond this brief. I can now see myself pursuing animation 100%; it's such a huge field of different things going on, different ways of doing and, and most importantly - to me at least - you never stop learning; it's always developing, it's always recycling back to the original traditional methods, and then a great example of combining the traditional with the new techniques in the case of the Jasper Morello animation below.
I was talking to Chris about her work for this brief; how she feels like she's learnt everything she needs to and she didn't know what to do next.. animation is the complete opposite; there's something to learn every single day.
Which is exactly what I plan on doing.... I want to get my knowledge of after effects built up, so from now on, I plan to try and experiment with at least one little thing every day, at least til the end of the brief, and hopefully there on after as well.
...For example... the Harry Potter title sequence I created; I can't re use that, but I can apply the things I picked up from it.. such as the 'null object'; I need to understand what it is and how it works, so that's one of the first on my list of what to do next.... I'll try and upload my progress on vimeo as often as I can and keep the blog updated on what's going on.
