So, we had this Send & Receive workshop today, which kind of helped me really start to understand the brief a little more. We explored some texts all about design, designers as authors, the commercialisation of design, the social impact of design, the way design is affected by who has designed/written/painted it.... etc etc etc...
So I was sat watching telly this evening and this ad came on, pretty much sums up and supports a lot of the criticism raised about design being a predominantly commercial industry... it sells the designs on their detail, their beauty; their aesthetics.... and doesn't use the importance of the skills of design to push it to be used as a useful and a more helpful 'tool'.
