Disney Isn't Just For Kids

My boyfriend, as well as a few others, roll their eyes and sigh if I mention Disney - apparently it's just for kids, it's 'immature', it's 'a bit young'...

WRONG.

I think you'll find, Disney kicked off waaaaay back in the 1920's.. I'd say it's pretty old actually.

I've realised, you have to be able to understand, to appreciate and become completely involved with Disney to love it as much as some of us enthusiasts do. It's a talent, it's an art, it's a kids dream being performed in front of you. We were all kids once were we not.. so why should we lose that love for adventure and fantasy?
Animation has been with us teenage/20-somethings since we first opened our eyes, I think our generation is lucky for growing up within the turn of the animation as it has. Dumbo, Cinderella, Pinocchio ... they were some of my favourites, and they were ancient considering when I was born... My point is... it doesn't matter about age, you just have to become completely drawn in, believe in a little bit of Disney magic.

I think the more I'm reading up about animation and the more I understand about the ridiculous time and effort that goes into creating something as special as Disney, the more my love grows for it. The work there is incredible. Every last little detail.

Toy Story 3-D

A group of us went along to see Toy Story 3-D last night ... it's one of my friend Crystal's favourite films, she's got some Disney love... she was so excited and absolutely loved it.
I challenge anyone to watch Toy Story and not feel any emotion, not laugh, or feel a little bit happy at any point, like you're a big kid again - that film is brilliant, it's something for everyone.
The whole development of animation and the viewing experience makes it all the more exciting.... 3-D.... woooow!!!

And we've already made plans to go to see 'UP' next week as well... if you haven't seen a trailer then be prepared.. it's another Disney meets Pixar film, epic. Yes, I think so...

Thinking ahead about technology developing, it reminds me of the Animated Yorkshire evening I went along to, one guy was explaining about how he is a 2D illustrator/animator, his speciality being on effects; basically, anything but details around the character. He'd worked at Aardman on storyboards, and amongst other things is a tutor...(I would like to contact him to find out more, but I'm not really comfortable in doing so just yet). Anyway... he was talking about animation, and said how it's cyclic; it's forever developing and reverting back to its origins, so there's always something to do as an animator, because it all comes around again.

I guess it's kind of like fashion... there's far too many shoulder pads reappearing again.. the leggings, the ankle warmers, the return of the 80's... Next we'll all have crazy hair styles and perms and quiffs ... oh wait.. we already have....
There's a new theme, a new thread, a little off-take of the 80's style, embellished with a touch of the 60's and a splash of the 90's ... but the inspirations are clearly there in front of you.
Animation rolls the same, there are ads out there, despite the astonishing developments of technology, that have stuck to simple, basic animations, such as drawn/cartoon styles - of which there are also still kids TV programs... The return of Pingu, Postman Pat... there are rumours that Bagpuss is to come back very soon as well. It's that nostalgic feel of the original animations, it brings the cycle of animation back around again, and it's great to see.

Here's a few examples of nostalgic animation being used today:
