David Downton

Whilst Christmas shopping around and about Meadowhall, took a gander into Paperchase .. (i could spend HOURS in that shop.. I'm so sad...) I love glancing through the cards in there, there's some horrendous cards, some hilarious cards, and some damn cute cards. I came across the exclusive designers shelf and the following couple of posts were some of the designers that wowed me...

David Downton was the first, I've seen a lot of his work, but not realised it was him till i re-looked him up on the web. His website's great with plenty of references to past work for magazines, celebrity portraits and other big companies such as Topshop and Marks & Spencers.

I really love his work, some of it is so so simple by a few brush strokes, or big block colours, yet it's so so realistic and it has a quirky edge which makes me glance back at it, and study it to work out where he started and how he does it all. I'd really like to get stuck in and paint and draw a little more, even if it's not to do with my brief at college, just in my own time get some messy stuff going on!!
