Inspirations

I came across a lot of artists and pieces of work that gave a boost of confidence every so often in what I was doing and helped me where I was going. I really appreciated the tutors from Rugby college, and the help they offered - they gave you that other eye and look at everything which helped bring it all to a focus.. big thanks to them :)

As well as my crossovers with textiles and illustration, I started to look at more experimental ways of painting, distressing surfaces; developing photographs to create a different atmosphere and an aged appearance. I found Sigmar Polke’s weird and wonderful work quite inspirational and offered an alternative way of presenting what I wanted to show. The book below was a great help and is full of some quirky, dark and really interesting images. There’s lots of ages photos, distressed polaroids and that kind of stuff. Sorry I’m struggling to find any website references to him, will put one up if I come across any!
